Douoble Deck Pinochle

Double Deck Pinochle is a fast-paced, strategic partnership game played with four players using two Pinochle decks (no 9s), where teams score points through melds and trick-taking. It’s more complex and rewarding than single-deck Pinochle, with higher scoring potential and deeper strategy.
Setup and Deck
• Deck: Two Pinochle decks combined (each has 48 cards: two each of 9–A in all suits, but in double deck, 9s are removed).
• Total cards: 80 cards (two copies of each 10, J, Q, K, A in all suits).
• Players: 4 players in two teams (partners sit opposite).
• Deal: Each player receives 20 cards, dealt in packets of 4 or 5.
Meld Scoring (Declared after deal, before bidding)
Each card can only be used in one meld.
Bidding Phase
• Begins with player to dealer’s left.
• Minimum bid: 50 points
• Players bid based on meld strength and trick potential.
• Winning bidder declares trump suit (must have a marriage in that suit).
• If you win the bid, your team must meet or exceed your bid through meld + trick points.
Trick-Taking Phase
• Player who won the bid leads first.
• Players must follow suit if possible.
• If unable to follow suit, must play trump if possible.
• Highest trump wins; if no trump, highest card in lead suit wins.
• Each trick earns points based on card values:
• Ace: 11, Ten: 10, King: 4, Queen: 3, Jack: 2
• Last trick: +10 bonus points
Winning the Game
• Game is typically played to 500 or 1,000 points.
• Points come from melds and tricks combined.
• If bidding team fails to meet bid, they lose that amount from their score.
Double Deck Pinochle rewards teamwork, memory, and strategic bidding.
